Chennai, May 10, 2026 – In a decisive start to his tenure, newly sworn-in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay signed three major files on Day 1, signaling a strong focus on welfare, women’s safety, and combating drug menace. The highlight of his immediate actions is the ambitious 200 units of free power scheme for domestic consumers.

200 Units of Free Power, Women Safety Force and Anti-Narcotics Unit

200 Units of Free Power: Relief for Households

One of Tamilnadu CM Vijay’s top promises has been delivered on the very first day in office. The government will provide 200 units of free electricity bimonthly to eligible domestic consumers using up to 500 units per two-month billing cycle.

This 200 units of free power initiative aims to provide significant relief to middle-class and lower-income families amid rising living costs. It is expected to benefit millions of households across Tamil Nadu by reducing electricity bills and supporting essential needs like lighting, fans, and appliances.

Experts view this as a continuation of populist welfare measures in the state, but with a fresh push for quicker implementation under the new TVK-led government.

Singa Pen Special Force: Prioritizing Women’s Safety

The second key decision focuses on women’s security. CM Vijay approved the formation of an elite ‘Singa Pen Special Force’ (also referred to as Singappen Athiradi Padai), a dedicated unit to enhance safety for women across the state.

This special women safety force will likely include increased patrolling, rapid response teams, and targeted interventions in high-risk areas. It reflects the CM’s commitment to making Tamil Nadu safer for women and girls.

“Singa Pen Special Force” is a powerful concept centered on creating safer public spaces for women through rapid-response policing, community engagement, technology, and awareness programs. Inspired by Tamil Nadu’s growing focus on women-centric safety initiatives, the force could combine trained women officers, emergency support systems, public transport surveillance, and self-defense outreach programs to build confidence and security for women across cities and towns.

Anti-Narcotics Task Force: War on Drugs

The third major order establishes a new Anti-Narcotics Task Force to crack down on illegal drugs and psychotropic substances. The unit will operate across all districts, with a strong emphasis on preventing drug abuse, especially among youth and school children

This move comes amid growing concerns over substance abuse and aims to strengthen law enforcement efforts while promoting awareness and rehabilitation.

CM Vijay’s Message on Day 1

After taking oath, CM Vijay emphasized transparent governance and vowed swift action on key issues. He promised a white paper on the state’s finances and assured that no one, including those in his own government.

What This Means for Tamil Nadu

These three priorities — 200 units of free power, women safety force, and anti-narcotics unit — clearly outline the new government’s focus areas: immediate welfare relief, social security, and law and order. As Tamil Nadu enters a new political era under TVK leadership, citizens are watching closely to see how these announcements translate into on-ground impact.

Stay tuned for more updates on the implementation of the 200 units of free power scheme and other initiatives.
